Mind
if I Infringe on Your Rights?
After all, I'm just an Innocent Child 4/1/2018 Wayfair, Nestle, TripAdvisor, Nutrish, Sleep Number, ATT, Rocket Mortgage announced they are removing their support from Fox News’ Laura Ingraham show. Office Depot, Jenny Craig, Hulu, Arby’s, Expedia, StitchFix, Johnson & Johnson and Atlantis, Paradise Island resort, to name a few, have also dropped Ingraham. David Hogg, a 17 year-old Parkland shooting survivor, whined about how Laura Ingraham was picking on him. He published the above list of advertisers telling his followers in a tweet that the advertisers should drop their support for Ingraham. He says he will continue to go after Ingraham. When students like David Hogg engage in the process demanding there should be new laws, new regulations and new restrictions of what some believe is a constitutional right, fur will fly. The notion that there will be no discourse is a pitiful example of how utterly naive young adults are today. Mr. Hogg feels his opinion is a right and should be respected, without attack, discourse or discussion, because he’s a Parkland “survivor.” And those who don’t agree with his opinion should be punished. No question about it, he's a dictator in training. To you advertisers that dropped Ingraham don't be surprised if a lot people are now done with you. Two can play this game, the advertisers and the people who buy their products. Advertisers have the right to withdraw their support and throw their advertising where they wish. But, when a 17-year-old, turned activist says he doesn’t like what was said by a television host so stop advertising on that show, and you companies agree, don’t you think you've gone a bit too far? What's the message? You agree with his opinion? You support his activities? You've done something far worse. When you withdrew your advertising money from Ingraham’s show, you threw the gauntlet down declaring your political position. If you had done nothing, life would have gone on. When you engage tacitly in the political world by agreeing with a gun control activist by withdrawing advertising, you will have to pay the price for becoming more than a company providing products and services, you are now engaging in political opinion. That’s a very dangerous place for a company to be. Do you support gun control measures? Do you support Mr. Hogg and his demands to change our system? Do you support his tirades? Do you think he's a fine example of a young teenager trying to change the system? Are you trying to save sales? Just so you know who you’re supporting, Mr. Hogg has started a campaign against Senator John McCain. Senator McCain is an American war hero who spent years as prisoner of war and is currently fighting for his life from brain cancer. Mr. Hogg is asking why Senator McCain is taking so much money from the NRA. Is this the person you want to hang your hat with? Mr. Hogg also conducted a profanity laced interview. It’s the kind of interview where you want to grab him by the hair and wash his mouth out with soap. He sounds like the little punk he is. Is this what your company is supporting? Laura Ingraham can say what she wants within the rules of Fox News and its producers. You can advertise as you please. But, when you make advertising decisions based on political pressure, you’re just plain incompetent. You have exposed your company to the ire of the majority of American people who feel very strongly in the right to say what they wish when it comes to political discourse. When a political activist goes on a rampage with the intent of harming others, they go too far. And when they claim they themselves are a victim of “abuse” by an adult, please stop the silliness. This kid is almost old enough to join the military within a few months. He’s almost old enough to vote. But don’t say he’s “hands off” because he is a child. That’s just plain silly. He’s a snot-nosed foul-mouth punk with an ego bigger than most politicians, of which this little punk will become. You can see the writing on the wall. So, good luck to you companies who made a really bad decision. How you fix the problem with consumers who will no longer do business with you is going to be a tough fix. Hope you pull through unscathed, but it’s doubtful. The people you pissed off have a long memory. |
